Children’s Ministries

Children 1In his book titled Christian Nurture, American theologian and Christian educator Horace Bushnell wrote that, ideally at least, “a child should grow up a Christian, and never know himself as being otherwise.”

Iotla Baptist Church loves children!  This is more than a statement; it is an exclamation.  We enjoy seeing our children in services of worship, in other weekly activities, with their families in prayer, and participating in the special events we plan each year.

We encourage parents and grandparents to bring their children to church and help them to grow to know Jesus by the example they set for them, and we have a long tradition here at Iotla of including children in everything we do.

But beyond the regular, weekly activities we offer several other annual or occasional events for children.  A major event we hold each summer is our Vacation Bible School.  Vacation Bible School is one of the most important times for children to come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord.VBS 2015

Our Vacation Bible School Director this year is Diana Riddle, and the theme for VBS 2015 is “Everest:  Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power.”  VBS is scheduled for July 6-10, 2015 and we would love to include your child in our school this year.  If you have not yet been asked to help serve in Bible School and would like the opportunity, please be sure to contact us.  If you volunteer to serve in any of our children’s ministries (or youth ministries too), we will need the necessary information so that we can conduct a routine background check.  Everyone who works with children through our church has to pass the background check.

Other annual activities include our Trunk-or-Treat in October, our Easter Egg Hunt in the spring, and other events such as occasional Movie Nights, Skating Parties, and even a Thirty-hour Famine to help our children learn about the needs of people who lack food.

Children 2Recently, we have also added a Cub Scout Pack (#268) here at Iotla.  This is a group for boys and it meets at our church on Monday nights.  Down the road, we are considering adding a Boy Scout Troop and perhaps other community ministries.

We also enjoy a positive relationship with the Iotla Elementary School here at our church, with some of our ladies providing quilts for younger children and cookies and other goodies for the teachers.

We support our local educators with prayer walks as well, and members of our church also enjoy opportunities to serve children at our local school by being readers or early morning greeters.  For more information on any ministries for children at Iotla, please contact our church office or email us through our contact page.
